Rivers votes are what Tinubu needs, not logistical support. Ohi Woos Wike
Umahi
Bola Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate, does not require the logistical assistance of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, according to Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State.
Instead, Tinubu, according to Umahi, needs the support of the residents of the oil-rich state.
This was announced by Umahi, an APC governor and one of Tinubu’s South-East campaign coordinators, on Tuesday when he opened the Akpabu-Itu-Umudiogha road in Rivers’ Emohua Local Government Area at Wike’s invitation.
Umahi remarked to Wike, “You are a doer of promise.” “When you promise to provide logistical support, you will, but in the APC, we need votes—just for the presidential candidate, please—not for logistics.
I only ask that the presidential candidate, Asiwaju (Tinubu), keep it because he will be coming here to ask for votes.
Wike, a governor from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had promised logistical support for the campaigns of Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), who recently broke ground on projects in Rivers. Wike and Atiku Abubakar are not on speaking terms.
There are concerns that the intra-party disputes between Wike and Atiku over control of Iyorchia Ayu, which will take place about three months before the 2023 presidential election, will have an impact on the politician from Adamawa’s chances of winning in February.
In order to address what they called the dominance of the north within the party, Wike and four other PDP governors collectively known as the G5 or the Integrity Group want Benue-born Ayu to step aside for a southerner.
